Kerner 'Fels' Nals Margreid 2022

The Kerner "Fels," produced by the South Tyrolean winery Nals Margreid, is a Kerner of great freshness and aromatic intensity, reflecting in a clear and direct way the best varietal characteristics of this interesting grape, born from a cross between the Riesling and Schiava Grossa varieties. Particularly well adapted to cold climates, it has found its terroir of choice in Alto Adige and yields full-bodied wines, appreciated for their great density and pleasantness of taste. Because of its particular characteristics, it is a wine with a great gastronomic vocation and goes very well with Asian and Oriental dishes, connoted by spicy or slightly spicy notes.

Nals Margreid's "Fels" comes from vineyards located above the village of Nalles, at an altitude of 500 to 600 meters above sea level, facing southeast. The soils are ancient moraine in nature, very well drained with a good presence of limestone. The soils rest on solid substrates of porphyry rocks of ancient volcanic origin. The cool climate, characterized by strong temperature swings, allows the grapes to reach full maturity while retaining excellent freshness. Harvesting is done by hand, and the best bunches are gently pressed so as to extract only the flower must. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Before bottling, the wine matures in steel tanks on the lees so that it is enriched with more complex and intense structures and aromas.

The white Kerner "Fels" from Nals Margreid is a wine of great character, perfectly expressing the strong personality of the grape variety in the pedoclimatic peculiarities of the magnificent terroir of origin. To the eye, it has a beautiful straw yellow colour with clear, luminous reflections. On the nose, it expresses an intense and rich aromatic palette, giving delicate floral nuances, citrus notes, and spicy hints, of aromatic herbs, on a background of aromas of ripe white peach, Golden apple and tropical fruit. With good structure and richness, it has a broad, deep and persistent sip, closing on pleasantly savoury and mineral sensations.
