The idea was to choose a name that would sound familiar to the Austrian people, hence the appellation 'Perlé', a Frenchisation of the German expression 'perlend wein', meaning 'wine with bubbles'. After frothing, which is carried out according to the Metodo Classico, the wine rests for about 54 months on the lees until final disgorgement.
