La Poja is, together with Amarone, the workhorse of the Allegrini winery, one of the most deeply rooted and prestigious wineries in Valpolicella, now famous throughout the world. The origins of this exceptional wine date back to 1979, when Giovanni Allegrini decided to plant 2.65 hectares of only Corvina Veronese on the summit of the La Groia hill, thus establishing the Podere La Poja. He could not have even imagined the extraordinary success of the wine that would be born from it.
Poja Allegrini is made from Corvina grapes, harvested by hand towards the end of October in a slightly overripe state. The harvest is then crushed and destemmed, then fermented for about 20 days in stainless steel. At the end of the vinification process, the wine matures in new Allier barriques for 20 months, then in the bottle for a further 10.
After about 4 years of ageing, La Poja Allegrini presents itself with an extraordinary personality and uncommon elegance. Recognisable by a deep ruby colour and a bouquet reminiscent of officinal herbs and balsamic plants, together with a wide range of fruit and spices, La Poja surprises the palate with its graceful, crisp and elegant touch. The tannins are pleasant and impeccable and the pleasant aromas develop into a long, very fresh and mineral, enchanting finish.
