Giodo is a project born out of Carlo Ferrini's desire to make his own wines from his own estate. After a long career as a successful winemaker, considered among the greatest interpreters of Sangiovese ever, he decided to establish his own winery. The name is an affectionate homage to the initials of his parents' names Giovanna and Donatello, and today represents a brand recognized as synonym with high quality. The estate was born in 2002 with the purchase of an initial one-hectare plot in Montalcino, a true landmark for those who have dedicated their lives to making wine from Sangiovese grapes. The idea has in part the flavor of a challenge and in part an act of love for a place known internationally for the quality of its reds. Today his daughter Bianca works alongside Carlo throughout the production cycle.

The choice of the first plot came after a long search. As a fine connoisseur of the area and its princely vine, Carlo Ferrini was convinced to buy only when he finally found the vineyard that met his stringent requirements. The land is located between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Sant'Antimo, on the southeastern side of Montalcino, facing the Monte Amiata massif. The area enjoys a mild and breezy climate, ideal for perfect Sangiovese ripening. Over the years, the property has grown to its current 6 hectares. The vineyards are planted with 8 different clones of Sangiovese, specially chosen to create a perfect and harmonious balance and to give the wines the right complexity of aromas.

The vineyards are managed with extreme care and attention, following the principles of sustainable viticulture. Harvests are carried out with a rigorous selection of grapes in the vineyard and in the winery before vinifications, so that only perfectly ripe and healthy grapes are used. The winery is partially underground to blend harmoniously with the hills of Montalcino. Stones quarried during excavation were used for construction, with a zero-kilometer logic that favors local materials. The winery was designed to move grapes, musts and wine by gravity, without the use of pumps. A choice that preserves the integrity of the raw material and allows for energy sustainability. Today the Giodo brand offers wines from two territories: the Montalcino labels and Alberelli di Giodo the wines produced on the estate on Mount Etna.
