'Sasso al Poggio' Piccini 2020

Piccini's 'Sasso al Poggio' is a red blend with a strong but elegant personality. Typical is the distinctive mineral imprint, a trait of the rocky terrain on which the vines are grown, which is reflected on both nose and palate. On the nose, notes of ripe cherries meet liquorice and hints of vanilla, while in the mouth it is deep, enveloping, with a tannic structure that supports the great juiciness of the sip

'SASSO AL POGGIO' PICCINI 2020 DESCRIPTION

The 'Sasso al Poggio' from the Tuscan wine cellar Piccini is a Supertuscan with a spicy aromatic profile that reflects both the characteristics of the starting vines and the passage in oak to which the wine has been subjected. With more than 140 years of history in the world of wine, the Piccini family brand is a true wine giant, in Tuscany and beyond, capable of producing more than 16 million bottles a year. The Piccini family's focus remains quality, pursued through a modern and innovative production approach aimed at enhancing the estate's vineyard heritage.

Piccini 'Sasso al Poggio' originates from a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes cultivated on medium-textured soils tending towards clay. When the grapes have reached the ideal state of ripeness, each variety is harvested and vinified separately through alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks with prolonged maceration on the skins. Malolactic fermentation is also carried out completely and the wine is then racked into oak barrels for the long 12-month ageing that precedes the final bottling. The final release takes place no earlier than an appropriate resting period in glass.

Piccini's 'Sasso al Poggio' presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby red colour. The olfactory context is composed of pleasant scents of marasca cherries, orange peel and red flowers, enriched by iodized mineral hints and deep hints of liquorice and vanilla that emerge on the finish. On the palate it is robust and fresh, with very present but well-integrated tannins accompanying the lingering finish. Thanks to its structured and savoury taste, this Supertuscan pairs beautifully with mature cheeses, important first courses and game-based main courses.
