Sirch's Schioppettino is a fresh, spicy and very characteristic red wine, made in the Colli Orientali del Friuli and matured partly in barriques and partly in steel. It wins you over on the nose with its intense fruity notes of strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and currants, accompanied by peppery sensations. On the palate it vibrates and pops, thanks to a sharp freshness and a taut texture with sweet tannins
Sirch's Schioppettino is a label dedicated to one of Friuli's most interesting reds. It is produced from the indigenous grape variety of the same name, cultivated in the beautiful hilly area a few kilometres from the Slovenian border. It is a grape with very special characteristics, yielding a wine with fragrant aromas of berries, accompanied by intense spicy notes of black pepper. The sip, smooth and crisp, makes it particularly pleasant, also by virtue of a lively mineral freshness that unmistakably marks its profile. At the table it is best paired with grilled meats, roast red meats or with game-based main courses.
Schioppettino is a precious speciality of the Colli Orientali. The Sirch winery vinifies it in purity and with a very measured use of wood, precisely so as not to distort the character of the vine and to leave its clear varietal notes in the foreground. The Schioppettino vines are cultivated in the Prepotto area, on soils composed of Eocene sandstone marl. The clusters are destemmed and the grapes are fermented in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins for two or three weeks and frequent pumping over. The wine matures in steel vats, and ends its ageing period with a few months in the bottle.
Schioppettino wine, produced by the Friulian winery Sirch, is the identity red of the Colli Orientali area. It is a grape variety found only in this small area of Friuli and is not cultivated in other regions of Italy. It is precisely its character of strong territorial roots that contributes to the charm of a rare and unique wine with an ancient and authentic face. In the glass, it has a fairly intense ruby red colour with light violet reflections. Fragrant and delicate, it is distinguished by an aromatic framework expressing aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry, hints of undergrowth, hints of spices and black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied, with a tannic texture well integrated with juicy, ripe fruit, which accompanies a fresh, pleasantly peppery finish. A bottle with great personality, absolutely to be tried.
