SURNAT 1701 2021 DESCRIPTION

Surnat 1701 is a sleek and longish white, a splendid interpretation of Chardonnay that is all about freshness. We are in Cazzago San Martino, in the heart of Franciacorta wine-growing, here where the 1701 winery is located, the first local winery to conduct its vineyards entirely biodynamically. A decisive choice, but one due to the passion and love for such a vocated terroir, planted almost entirely with Chardonnay in addition to a small part of Pinot Noir. More than three centuries of history that have led to a confrontation not only with the usual classic method, but also with a still white like this splendid bottle. Clarity, purity and essentiality that leave no doubt as to the potential of the area and the skilful hand in winemaking. A project of rare beauty!

The white wine Surnat 1701 is made from pure Chardonnay grapes from vineyards cultivated entirely in the Franciacorta area. If in the vineyard, as already mentioned, the precepts of biodynamics are followed and therefore no chemical or synthetic products are used, in the cellar, after manual harvesting and destemming, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation is carried out using only indigenous yeasts and the liquid is matured in terracotta amphorae to preserve its freshness and tension.

The 1701 Surnat presents itself in the glass with a lively, bright straw-yellow colour. The nose, despite its expressive finesse, is not stingy with descriptors such as crisp apple, hawthorn, herbaceous touches and mineral lashings. Its gradual progression leads it to express itself little by little, like a true marathon runner. The sip is taut and crisp, making freshness and saltiness its strong points, with returns to mineral nuances. A beautiful bottle, also by virtue of a price/quality ratio that leans decidedly towards the former!
