Susumaniello Rosato 'Amai' San Marzano 2022

San Marzano

The Susumaniello Rosato "Amai" di' San Marzano is a fresh, Mediterranean rosé, a true mirror of the wine from Salento. Produced by a winery that is now a pivot of Apulian oenology, Amai is a tribute to the territory and its workers, a wine made from an indigenous grape with unique characteristics. It is very balanced both on the palate and on the nose, where hints of wild flowers, small red fruits but then Mediterranean aromas of scrubland, citrus fruits arrived at surprising hints of tea and light hints of honey are revealed. The sip presents slight warmth and freshness.

SUSUMANIELLO ROSATO 'AMAI' SAN MARZANO 2022 DESCRIPTION

San Marzano's Susumaniello Rosato 'Amai' is an Apulian wine that was born in a small village in the heart of the Primitivo di Manduria PDO, between the seas that bathe Apulia. The winery was founded by 19 winemakers around 1962, with the intention of enhancing the territorial characteristics and native vines even before Primitivo di Manduria was recognised worldwide. The winery's first products went on sale in 1996, making the transition from the convention of bulk wine to the idea of a defined brand, exported all over the world. In the 2000s, the business turned sixty, perfectly expressing the working philosophy behind its success, thanks to the valorisation of old, otherwise forgotten vineyards. In 2015, Samia was born, an environmental sustainability project that presents itself as a window on the Mediterranean beauty of Apulia.

The Susumaniello Rosato 'Amai' vineyards in San Marzano are cultivated using the spurred cordon method with a planting density of up to 4500 vines per hectare. The soil is mainly composed of skeleton, sand and rock, medium-textured, deep and porous for luxuriant and flourishing plants. The climate is typically Mediterranean with hot, sunny and breezy summers thanks to the sea breezes; winters are mild, often characterised by rainfall. The grapes are harvested by hand in the first week of September, preferably in the morning so that the acidity is preserved. In the cellar, the best bunches are selected and the grapes are gently pressed with inert gases for initial separation of the must. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation and ageing in steel for 3 months.

To the eye, San Marzano's Susumaniello Rosato "Amai" is a brilliant, bright tenute pink. The aromas are reminiscent of wild flowers, small red berries, orange and aromatic herbs typical of the Mediterranean maquis. On the palate it is elegant, fine and inviting with a light fresh and savoury note on the finish that lures you back with cup after cup. In pairing it is excellent with shellfish, molluscs and seafood, but it also pairs pleasantly with earthy dishes such as roast white meats; also interesting with fresh cheeses and moderately mature cured meats. Perfect for the table at summer gatherings with friends on the beach, enjoying a product that is the result of conscious and authentic work.
