Michele Chiarlo is a name that, to all those who are passionate about the wines of Piedmont, will certainly not sound new. We are in front of a great winery, which, for several decades, has been vinifying the essence of the Piedmont terroir. A story that began with Michele's father, Pietro, who, at some point in his life, decided to return to Calamandrana and began investing in the surrounding countryside, replanting vineyards and sensing the future potential of wine in these areas. Michele, eager to try his hand at wine, had his father enroll him in the Alba wine school, making the first vintage "all his own" in 1958. From then on, he also devoted himself to expanding the sales network, tirelessly probing the American market and those associated with northern European countries. In the following decades, the Michele Chiarlo winery consolidated its position, expanding geographically, going on to purchase plots in the most exclusive cru throughout Piedmont. Today Michele is joined by Stefano and Alberto, in a succession that looks to the future by taking a cue from an influential family tradition, consolidated in a respectable range of labels.

The Michele Chiarlo winery's vineyards expand to no less than 120 hectares, a large size for a Piedmontese winery. Vineyards spread out in patches within some of the most vocated crus of Monferrato and Langhe, including Cannubi and Cerequio for Barolo, Asili for Barbaresco and La Court for Barbera di Nizza. Between the rows, the most identity varieties of each territory are grown, such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Cortese, Moscato, Dolcetto and Arneis. In the vineyard, they opt for vineyard management through integrated pest management, seeking, with concrete actions, to protect the landscape in which the wines grow. In the winery, the careful use of wood during aging never undermines the intrinsic characteristics of the grape varieties.

Michele Chiarlo is an important production reality, giving rise to more than twenty labels, all characterized by excellent quality, capable of alternating lighter and carefree wines with more important and austere products. A range that, as it should be, enjoys well-deserved success both nationally and internationally, reaping truly important scores and awards.
