The estate's origins date back to 1966, when Domenico Poggiali purchased the Fèlsina farm with the specific intent of enhancing the territory through quality production. The farms of Fèlsina, represent a piece of the history of the Chianti lands and still today consist of the plots that were part of the sharecropping tradition: Rancia, Rancino, Arcidosso, Arcidossino/Santa Letizia, Casale di Fèlsina, Fèlsina, Casalino, Santa Maria, San Giuseppe, Ruzzatoio, Molino d'Ombrone, Valli, Molinuzzo, Terra Rossa. Thanks to a number of subsequent acquisitions, the property reached an area of 40 hectares, and later the facilities were renewed, always keeping faith with the customs of the area. Also thanks to the collaboration with the famous oenologist Franco Bernabei, the estate's wines continued to improve over the following decades, until they reached excellence.
The estate is located between the high hill area of Chianti and the Ombrone valley and covers a total area of 600 hectares, of which one hundred are dedicated to viticulture. The extent of the property suggested that the vineyards be considered part of a larger and more complex ecosystem, so as to preserve natural integrity and maximum biodiversity. Alongside the areas planted with vines, fields of arable land, woods and wild Mediterranean shrubs have been preserved, all of which contribute to a wild and unspoiled landscape. Every effort is focused on producing high quality grapes. The vines come from mass selections, ensuring a diverse population of different biotypes, which give complexity to the wines and preserve a valuable genetic heritage that comes from centuries past.
In terms of soil composition, the Félsina area lies on the border between Chianti Classico and the Crete Senesi. The soils are of limestone matrix, with the presence of sandstones and clays. The fertility of the land is favored by tilling and healthy farming. Since 2015 all the vineyards have been certified organic and are treated only with sulfur, copper and organic fertilizers. The vocated soils and the cool and ventilated microclimate have always been suited to the needs of Sangiovese, which is then vinified in purity, precisely to highlight its extraordinary qualities and its elegant varietal, floral and fruity set.
