A happy recollection, which brings back memories of times gone by, where light-heartedness, fun and happiness were born in uncontaminated landscapes. This is what lies at the heart of Fonterenza, the family estate that Francesca and Margherita Padovani decided to turn into a winery at the end of the 1990s. It is located not far from the village of Sant'Angelo in Colle, south of the town of Montalcino, in a place where the two sisters spent much of their childhood and that has established a permanent bond with their souls. And it is precisely this feeling that attracted Francesca and Margherita, who decided to abandon the grey Milanese life and to immerse themselves fully in the magnificent Tuscan countryside.

Fonterenza is a small winery, which today covers about 4.2 hectares of vineyards, divided into four different plots. The land, made up of a diverse subsoil that alternates between marl, clay, silt, quartz and sandstone, is located to the south-east of Montalcino, in the area of Poggio San Polino, at an altitude of around 420 metres above sea level. They are surrounded by woods, and are characterised by a climate affected by the nearby presence of Monte Amiata and by sea currents from the south. Two grapes are grown in the vineyards: Sangiovese, the real protagonist of the area, and Cabernet Sauvignon, an international variety for which half a hectare is allocated. Margherita and Francesca have a strong love for this area, and have therefore decided to protect it as much as possible: all the work carried out in the vineyards is done manually, following the rhythms and phases of the biodynamic calendar, and only natural methods are used to combat vine diseases. This approach also continues in the cellar, and the grapes, after harvesting, always ferment spontaneously, without any enological aids or chemical-physical treatments.

Only by respecting the natural balance of the land is it possible to create wines with identity and personality, that honestly and faithfully reflect the hills and rows of vines from which they originate. The wines of Fonterenza are authentic and made using traditional techniques, which reveal, each with their own unique style and stories, the splendid terroir of Montalcino.
