Vignobles Coutant

The tradition of a family domaine in Saint-Émilion
Region Bordeaux (Francia)
Foundation Year 1920
Vineyard hectares 5
Address 2 Fagnouse, 33330 Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, Francia

Vignobles Coutant is located in the communal territory of the small village of Saint-Etienne de Lisse, within the famous Saint-Émilion Appellation, in one of the world's best-known areas for the production of great reds. We are, in fact, in the Bordeaux region, the southwestern part of France, facing the Atlantic Ocean. The domaine was created during the 19th century and became part of the Cassat-Coutant family properties in 1920. It is currently managed by Agnès Coutant, who represents the fourth generation of a dynasty deeply connected to the land and the world of wine. The estate covers about fifteen hectares, with beautiful vineyards cultivated in areas of great charm and history.

The Saint-Émilion area has always had a vocation for viticulture. Particularly favorable soil and climate conditions are complemented by the presence of noble red grape varieties and a centuries-old vine culture. The region is affected by an oceanic microclimate, with hot summers and rainfall concentrated mainly in autumn and spring. The presence of the wide estuary of the Gironde, helps to mitigate temperatures throughout the year, avoiding spring frosts, periods of intense heat, and favoring good temperature ranges during the day. The soils are composed of a substrate of clays and limestone, on which rest newer soils of an alluvial nature, rich in pebbles, which make the lands draining and always dry on the surface.

The area has proven for centuries to be well suited to the needs of Merlot, the true prince of the Saint-Émilion terroir, but there is no shortage of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon vines. Merlot manages to express itself in this area with particularly elegant, complex and very long-lived wines. The vineyards are conducted with the utmost respect for the environment, and since 2012 no chemical herbicides or insecticides have been used between the rows. As a testament to environmental sensitivity, the domaine is Haute Valeur Environnemental certified and is part of the Système de Management Environnemental du Vin de Bordeaux project. The range of wines is of an excellent standard, in keeping with the best traditions of the region.
