BAROLO RISERVA SARMASSA 'VIGNA BRICCO' GIACOMO BREZZA 2017 DESCRIPTION

The Barolo Bricco Sarmassa seems to whisper something like: fashions pass, Brezza and their wines remain. This important family of Barolo producers, active since 1885, is now in its fourth generation and presents annually classic wines of great level, created with accuracy like mirrors of the subzones. The vineyards of Nebbiolo, which grow in the particle anciently called Bricco Sarmassa, are located in the neighboring of La Morra, fully exposed to the south with land of fossils marl. Their cultivation is handled with great care and skill, the same can be found in the cellar: the grapes of Bricco Sarmassa are vinified separately and subjected to long maceration that enhance the soft tannins of variety Lampia and Michet and aged in large oak barrels, but it is only after a tasting, involving both amateurs and experienced technicians of wine, that the winemaker will decide to bottle the wine with the special designation of Bricco Sarmassa or under the more general sphere called Sarmassa. It's the attention to all the details that distinguish Brezza’s wines, making the family real championin winemaking. The Barolo Bricco Sarmassa hardly goes unnoticed: it is seductive, deep, complex, fascinating, balanced and long-lived. In the glass it has a bright garnet color, with transparency, characteristic of the grape. The nose is elegant and intense. Reconciles notes of youth still important, starting with initial powerful hints of liquorice, clove, rose and violet, with hints of classical refinement: the wine opens with raspberry jam, strawberry and blackberry in alcohol, braided notes balsamic and spicy mint, thyme, china, white pepper, juniper and very manfully ends with suggestions of chocolate, cocoa, roots and earth. The palate has a great structure, fine pulp and a great juiciness. The power of alcohol is masterfully restrained, so as to have a moderate perception of heat, proportionate to the intense freshness and lightened by the acidity and by perfect tannins. Concludes the meditative experience a long finish.
