Macchion dei Lupi is a small artisanal winery created and run by owner Carlo Parenti, a businessman who became a winemaker in 2005 after an enlightening meeting with oenologist Attilio Scienza. From the beginning, the approach was dictated by respect for organic farming, later converted to a biodynamic approach both in the vineyard and in the cellar, to give life to faithful, true and direct expressions of the territory. For this reason, in recent years, Carlo Parenti has been hailed by critics as a talented winemaker and his business as one of the most interesting on the entire Tuscan coast.

The Macchion dei Lupi winery is located in the territory of Suvereto, in the Maremma region of Livorno. The few hectares planted with vines are spread over three nuclei, in foothills rich in stones and minerals of volcanic origin, exposed to strong daily temperature ranges. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and, in a lower, sandier area near the Cornia River, grows Ansonica. Between the rows, legume green manuring is practiced, with mechanical weeding in alternating rows, with the aim of pursuing a natural balance and keeping the environment healthy and clean. In the winery, fermentations are spontaneous, without yeast inoculation, and no clarification or filtration is used to maintain the dense integrity of the wine. The amount of added sulfites is kept very low, out of respect for the final consumer. The white from Ansonica macerates on the skins for a few days, and all expressions rest, as they mature, in different types of wood.

The Macchion dei Lupi wines are dense with character and personality. They reflect an integral and territorial style, rich in aromatic detail and beautiful complexity. Energy, vitality and articulation flow from a well-defined structure, endowed with backbone, tannins and phenolic substance. A warm, Mediterranean aura breathes over the entire production, lending savoriness, freshness and depth to wines charged with solar energy, but not without momentum, drinkability, harmony and relaxation.
