The San Martino della Battaglia by Citari is a white wine produced on Lake Garda based on Tuchì, synonymous with Tocai Friulano. A great expression of the territory and its winemaking traditions, this wine strikes for great delicacy and balance, both on the palate and on the nose, where notes of citrus, white flowers, apple and pear stand out
The San Martino della Battaglia ‘Tuchì’ from the Lombard winery Citari is a fresh and balanced white wine, characterized by an almond finish typical of the grape variety from which it is made: Friulano. Notably, the name ‘Tuchì’ reflects the term historically used by winemakers in the San Martino della Battaglia area to identify Friulano, a white grape variety that was once known as Tocai before the legal dispute with Hungary. San Martino della Battaglia is a Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) dedicated to Friulano, covering a specific area on the southern Lombard side of Lake Garda. The DOC's name derives from the hamlet of San Martino della Battaglia in Desenzano del Garda, which references the small church of San Martino and the 1859 battle in which the Kingdom of Sardinia, allied with France, triumphed over the Austrian Empire.
The ‘Tuchì’ Citari San Martino della Battaglia is made from 100% Friulano grown on clay-limestone soils of morainic origin, particularly rich in minerals. After the grapes are hand-harvested in September, they undergo gentle pressing. The resulting must is transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. The wine then matures for several months on fine lees in steel, enhancing its body and complexity.
The San Martino della Battaglia ‘Tuchì’ from Citari winery has a pale straw-yellow color. The nose reveals enticing aromas of green apple, pear, and white flowers, with hints of lemon zest and dried fruit. The palate entry is soft and enveloping, with lively freshness providing balance to the progression, culminating in the almond finish typical of the variety.
