Piantavigna's Gattinara di Torraccia is a red wine with an elegant, complex and austere profile that encapsulates the characteristics of this splendid terroir of Alto Piemonte. It is a pure Nebbiolo with a particular face; in fact, it was born in an area with a cool climate, characterized by soils rich in iron minerals, a reminder of the eruptions of the very ancient Val Sesia volcano. In these lands the presence of vines has remote origins, and the wines of Gattinara have always been famous for finesse and extraordinary longevity.

Gattinara red is one of the most prestigious labels of the Novara-based winery Torraccia del Piantavigna. It is an entity that has helped make history in this enchanting corner of Upper Piedmont. Active since the 1950s, it now owns some 40 hectares of vineyards in the Novara Hills area. The beautiful vineyards in the Gattinara area are cultivated close to the foothills of the Alpine range, sunny and well protected from the cold northern winds. The stony soils of volcanic matrix are rich in iron minerals and are very well drained. Under these particular conditions, Nebbiolo produces clusters with small berries and considerable aromatic concentration. Gattinara wines express an austere, taut, stony profile in their youth, with floral and fruity aromas, lively freshness and a strong territorial character.

Torraccia del Piantavigna's Gattinara wine is a label that all Nebbiolo aficionados should be familiar with to appreciate how this extraordinary grape variety adapts to such a particular climate and soils, giving wines with unique appeal. Fermentation takes place in thermoregulated stainless steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for a few weeks. The wine matures for 36 months in French Allier oak barrels and finishes aging with 9 months in bottle. The wine is a pale ruby color with reflections tending toward orange. The olfactory profile is essential, assertive and austere, with floral scents, hints of graphite, mineral and earthy sensations, hints of licorice and nuances of small red berries. The palate has a good structure, with a lively tannic texture and considerable expressive tension, which is expressed in a vibrant and vertical sip, leading to a savory finish. It is a Nebbiolo that over time develops remarkable aromatic complexity and great harmony of taste.
