Fattoria La Valentina is located in Spoltore in the province of Pescara and represents a model of responsible viticulture, made with the sole intent of producing genuine wines that are able to reflect the characteristics of the vines and the land. It was created in 1990 and in 1994 was purchased by Sabatino, Roberto and Andrea Di Properzio with the desire to enhance the land of Abruzzo by highlighting its enormous potential in the field of viticulture. The particular location of the region, situated in a hilly area that slopes gently down from the high peaks of the Apennines to the coast of the Adriatic Sea, makes it perfect for vines. The climate is characterized by a dual influence, the mild and gentle Mediterranean and the cold and continental climate of the mountains.
The area of the hilly hinterland of the Pescara area represents a unique terroir, thanks in part to the presence of particularly suitable soils. The vineyards cover a total area of some 20 hectares and are located in different areas, particularly in the municipal territories of Spoltore, Loreto Aprutino, Moscufo and Civitella Casanova. The vines chosen are those historically present in these lands: Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano Abruzzese and Pecorino. Agronomic management is oriented toward respect for nature and the ecosystem as a whole. No herbicides are used and all vineyards are conducted following the principles of organic farming. New plantings are made with a mass selection of the best plants from the estate's old vineyards, to preserve the diversity of biotypes and their valuable genetic heritage.
All harvesting operations are carried out by hand picking the grapes when they are fully ripe, so that the aromas are intense and rich. Before pressing and winemaking, the clusters are carefully and rigorously selected. To maintain natural integrity, wines are not subjected to clarification or filtration, and total sulfur dioxide is always very low. Attention to sustainability and the environment, also translates into the preservation of biodiversity, environmentally friendly and respectful working methods and estate management. Only certified green energy is used on the estate, and the wines hold certifications for the absence of pesticide residues, residues of animal products, and allergens.
