SAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU CHATEAU QUINTUS 2020 DESCRIPTION

Château Quintus Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is located in the heart of one of the world's most famous terroirs for the production of great red wines that are elegant, harmonious, complex and destined for long ageing. The domaine is part of a major estate that also manages the prestigious Château Angelus, Château Canon, Château Balair-Monange, Château Ausone, Château Canon La Gaffelière and Château Pavie. In this region of France, vine cultivation dates back to the period of Roman colonisation and has been handed down from generation to generation ever since, preserving all the charm of ancient traditions. Since 1999, the Saint-Émilion area has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site as an example of a historical wine-growing landscape that has been preserved intact.

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Château Quintus is a splendid property located in the south-west of Saint-Émilion on a small plateau relief, in one of the most beautiful and vocated areas of the appellation. The estate covers 28 hectares with an age of vines of around 30 years. The particularity of this area is the presence of soils of a calcareous, clayey-calcareous nature, with the presence of gravel in the part that slopes towards the south. The vineyard is planted mainly with Merlot, supplemented by Cabernet Franc and a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. Agronomic management is traditional, with grassed inter-row planting. After manual harvesting, the grapes are carefully selected, first on the vibrating table and then after destemming. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with very gentle extraction. The wine matures in French oak barrels, 35% new, for a period of approximately 18 months.

Château Quintus Saint-Émilion Grand Cru is a classic Bordeaux blend made from a majority proportion of Merlot and a balance of Cabernet Franc, in the perfect style of the right bank of the Gironde estuary. In the glass, it has an intense garnet red colour. The nose is characterised by a rich and very elegant bouquet, expressing above all aromas of cherries, small berries, currants, blueberries, blackberries, hints of soft spices, balsamic notes and woody nuances. Harmonious and persuasive, it has a very fine tannic texture, soft and evolved, and a taste characterised by ripe, enveloping fruit, which accompanies towards a finish of remarkable gustative balance, fresh and very persistent. A great bottle that reaches its full maturity after a few years of ageing.
