Barbagia Rosso 'Ghirada Ocruarana' Teularju 2021

Barbagia Rosso 'Ghirada Ocruarana' Teularju is an elegant Sardinian wine produced in the Nuoro area from Cannonau by a young winery that works organically, respecting nature and raw materials to the utmost. Full and sophisticated on the palate, the initial warmth gives way to a fresh mineral note that surprises the palate on the finish, while on the nose the classic hints of dark fruit alternate with spicy nuances and light hints of aromatic herbs. A deeply Mediterranean red wine, ideal with red meat or game dishes

BARBAGIA ROSSO 'GHIRADA OCRUARANA' TEULARJU 2021 DESCRIPTION

The Barbagia Rosso 'Ghirada Ocruarana' from the family-run wine estate Teularju represents alively and generous interpretation of the Cannonau of Mamoiada. The grapes used to make 'Ghirada Ocruarana' come from the 2 hectare plot of the same name, characterised by the highest altitudes among those cultivated by the estate and by the presence of a green metamorphic stone called 'ocruarana', hence the name of the acorn.

Teularju Barbagia Rosso 'Ghirada Ocruarana' is made from pure Cannonau grapes, bush-trained according to the principles of certified organic farming within the Ocruarana acorn grove. Here, the slope is about 20 per cent, while the soil of granite origin is predominantly sandy, with the presence of clay and organic substance and an abundance of skeleton. Once the grapes have reached full ripeness, they are harvested by hand and only part of the bunches are destemmed. This is followed by spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in small vats with about 12 days of maceration on the skins, at the end of which the wine is drawn off and then racked into large new oak casks of 30 and 50 hectolitres, where malolactic fermentation takes place and a year's ageing precedes the final bottling.

The 'Ghirada Ocruarana' Barbagia Rosso di Teularju has an intense ruby red colour. The olfactory panorama is persuasive, defined by definite suggestions of cherry, blackberry and plum that blend with nuances of leather and tobacco and evocative notes of aromatic herbs. The palate is full, juicy and full-bodied, with integrated tannins and a persistent finish characterised by a pleasant savoury trail accompanying the consistent returns of fruit and spices.
