sommelier's description

Hofstatter is one of the great names of quality viticulture in South Tyrol; the current owner Martin Foradori now manages the land gathered around the historic cellar of Termeno, inherited from the paternal and maternal relatives. Right of Foradori was the idea of building the new complex of his cellar in height, on the foundations of the old cellar, next to the neo-Gothic tower of Termeno. The cellar, where wines are stored and matured, is ventilated and air conditioned with a sophisticated system. Some ventilation shafts capture the winds that descend from Roen, the mountain overlooking Termeno, maintaining the ideal values of air humidity in the cellar through this natural ventilation. An insulation system between the internal and the external sides, multi-layered and permeable, ensures the maintenance of constant temperatures. This is the way how Hofstatter takes advantage of natural forces, wind and spontaneous condensation, for maturing wines in the tower, while saving energy. These premises have created Lagrein by Hofstatter: the grapes for this wine are grown on a gritty soil, at the foot of Mount Sella, where a particular microclimate, given by the warm wind of '"Ora" and the winds of nearby Lake Caldaro, offers ideal conditions for the development of aromatic compunds in Lagrein. On this variety, grown in South Tyrol since the thirteenth century, Hofstatter has built part of its success. Why? Because this Lagrein summarizes the most authentic characters of the original grape, with elegance and delicacy.
