Scarbolo

The Pinot Grigio 'Mepari' from the Scarbolo winery is a white wine with a fresh and agile sip, a good structure and a broad and complex bouquet, where notes of apple, peach and apricot are accompanied by delicate hints of herbs. The palate is intense and persistent, characterized by pleasant acidity and a slight mineral streak on the finish. PINOT GRIGIO 'MEPARI' SCARBOLO 2020 DESCRIPTION

Pinot Grigio 'Mepari' represents one of the flagship labels of the Friulian estate Scarbolo. We are in the municipality of Lauzacco, in the province of Udine, in the Grave del Friuli area, a territory that this winery intends to enhance by giving particular emphasis to the Pinot Grigio grape variety. The winery is led by Valter Scarbolo, recently joined by his daughter Lara on the production side and his son Mattia on the commercial side. Lara studied Enology in Udine and Bordeaux while Mattia Finance in the United States, both of whom returned to the base to breathe new life into the family winery.
Scarbolo Pinot Grigio 'Mepari' is made from only Pinot Grigio grapes grown on soils of alluvial origin, formed by red and brown clay, within the Grave del Friuli area of Friuli. In the winery, the grapes undergo a soft pressing and the resulting must is piped into stainless steel tanks where the first part of alcoholic fermentation takes place. The fermentation process continues in 20-hectoliter French and Slavonian oak barrels, the same wine containers within which the wine remains to mature for 18 months, followed by an additional 18 months of aging in stainless steel before final bottling.
To the eye, the 'Mepari' Pinot Grigio from the family-owned winery Scarbolo expresses a straw-yellow color with brilliant golden hues. The nose unfolds on scents of apple, apricot and citrus, enhanced by hints of aromatic herbs and white flowers. Mineral notes and hints of toasted almond complete the olfactory context. The palate shows an excellent balance between pleasant freshness and glyceric softness, as well as a persistent finish reminiscent of citrus sensations.
