A famous and full-bodied expression of Sangiovese from Tuscany, the Chianti Classico di Fontodi is an intense and elegant wine, aged in old barriques for 24 months. It lets aromas of violets, leather and tobacco emerge in the glass. The sip reveals body, spice, sharpness and precision
Fontodi is located in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the valley that opens to the south of the village of Panzano called "Conca d'oro", a "terroir" renowned for centuries for its vocation to quality grape growing due to the unique combination of high altitude, rich soil, great luminosity and an excellent microclimate, warm, dry, with a wide temperature change between day and night.
Following the Chianti Classico wine tradition, Fontodi has chosen to engage itself in the enhancement of Sangiovese, trying to express the purest characteristics of this historical Tuscan variety, practising highly sustainable forms of agriculture. Certified under organic farming for the entire 70 hectares of vineyards, Fontodi is based on principles of absolute naturalness, reducing any form of external input and making the best out of the internal resources. Similarly, the processes of fermentation and ageing in wood take place in the modern cellar located on descending levels so as to operate by gravity with an approach as respectful of the natural integrity of the grapes as possible.
Specifically, the Chianti Classico Fontodi is naturally fermented with wild yeasts and long macerations and then is assigned to slow ageing in Allier and Troncais barriques. In the glass emerge the more typical aromas of Sangiovese, showing the great ability of Fontodi to accommodate a spontaneous and genuine development of its wines, expressing the rich complexity of the Chianti Classico terroir.
