RUM VIEUX AGRICOLE 'FRENCH WEST INDIES' TRANSCONTINENTAL RUM LINE DESCRIPTION

Rum Vieux Agricole 'French West Indies' is the label that Transcontinental Rum Line, the line conceived by La Maison du Whisky with express reference to the historic journeys of casks between the New World and the Old Continent, dedicates to the great artisanal distilling tradition of the Caribbean. Since the origins of its production, rum has been transported to Europe not only for consumption by an ever-widening public of enthusiasts, but also for a number of objective reasons. Maritime, because they avoided drinking stagnant water during long crossings. Economic, because rum aged in a continental climate evaporates less quickly and matures more slowly. Technical, because the variety of casks previously dedicated to wine, Whisky or Cognac and the centuries of experience of French or Scottish masters have allowed for unique expressions.
The Maison du Whisky introduces in its Transcontinental Rum Line a Rum Vieux Agricole that it christens 'French West Indies': the territory of the French West Indies stretches between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, made up of a long sequence of small islands including Guadeloupe and Martinique, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent, where the tradition of distillation is an almost domestic feature. This blended rum is distilled by column from the pure juice of fresh sugar cane, within companies in the archipelago, according to a type of processing that avoids the use of dyes and other artificial manipulations. The first ageing period takes place locally and lasts for 3 years in American oak barrels. Maturation then continues in Europe, on French soil, for at least another 12 months.
The Rum Vieux Agricole Transcontinental Rum Line 'French West Indies' appears in the glass with a crisp amber colour, variegated by golden highlights. The nose is intense and enveloped in sweet spicy nuances, vanilla and hints of dried fruit, balanced by more pungent citrus hints. A feeling of lightness unfolds on the palate, within a taste balance marked by honeyed sweetness, with a persistent emergence of toasted aromas.
