COTE ROTIE AMPODIUM DOMAINE ROSTAING 2019 DESCRIPTION

Domaine Rostaing's Côte Rôtie "Ampodium" is produced in France's Côte Rôtie in the beautiful Rhone Valley, considered one of the most vocated and interesting areas for the production of quality wines in France. This land has been cultivated by the Rostaing family for more than 40 years: René Rostaing learned traditional winemaking methods through his studies abroad and the field teachings of his uncle Marius Gentaz first and his father-in-law Albert Dervieux later, thus creating his own idea of how to produce wine of undisputed quality. Today, the business can count on about 10 hectares of land entirely planted with vines that are in the hands of René's son Pierre, who is working to preserve the family tradition.

Domaine Rostaing's Côte Rôtie "Ampodium" vineyards are situated at an elevation of between 200 and 300 meters above sea level; the climate in this area is characterized by the influence of the Mediterranean Sea, which gives sunny summers with temperatures that are never too high and mild winters. The soil is characterized by calcareous deposits and marine sandstones, due to the withdrawal of sea water. Cultivation can be described as heroic, since the vines are placed on impervious terraces and dry stone walls that make it difficult to intervene with machinery to manage plant growth. Once the strictly manual harvest is completed, the grapes in the cellar undergo alcoholic and malolactic fermentation thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. It ages 12 months in oak barrels and no filtration or clarification takes place during the bottling stage.

The color of Domaine Rostaing's Côte Rôtie "Ampodium" is a deep red with hints tending toward purple. On the nose, aromas of underbrush, fruit and spicy notes of black tea, pepper and leather stand out; on the palate, it is elegant and refined with well-integrated tannins, that offer a pleasant sip. In pairing it is recommended with typical traditional French meat cuts, game and first courses with structured sauces; also excellent with vegetarian dishes. A wine that excellently accompanies family meals, but also romantic evenings in front of the fireplace spent with a good book.
