Semi-sparkling White 'Colbotto' Le Quattro Volte 2022

Le Quattro Volte

The Semi-Sparkling White "Colbotto" by Le Quattro Volte is the lively and jaunty 'pet-nat' of this iconic artisanal winery from Calabria. It is a hymn to the sizzling movement of southern Italian winemakers that work respecting their land and its unique products. This is a lightly macerated white from Mantonico grapes, very fragrant with typical citrus, floral and white fruit scents. The sip is smooth, brisk and light, an Italian-style 'glou-glou' to enjoy an afternoon of relaxation

SEMI-SPARKLING WHITE 'COLBOTTO' LE QUATTRO VOLTE 2022 DESCRIPTION

The small Calabrian winery Le Quattro Volte presents the Frizzante Bianco 'Colbotto', a bottle-fermented wine with a joyful personality made from only Mantonico Bianco grapes. This ancient grape variety indigenous to Calabria was probably imported by Greek colonists in the 7th century B.C., as is also confirmed by the Hellenic origin of the name 'mantonikos', itself derived from the term 'mantiseos', meaning prophet, soothsayer. In fact, wine made from the Mantonic White was widely consumed by priests and soothsayers.

The Frizzante Bianco 'Colbotto' from the Le Quattro Volte estate is made exclusively from Mantonico Bianco grapes, a variety cultivated in a highly sustainable manner on clay and limestone soils. Following manual harvesting, the grapes are transported to the winery and vinified through spontaneous alcoholic fermentation combined with short skin maceration. The light mousse takes place by re-fermentation in the bottle according to the Ancestral Method, and the wine is bottled with the characteristic crown cork. During the entire process, no clarification or filtration and often no addition of sulphites takes place in order to provide the purest and most genuine expression.

The 'Colbotto' Frizzante Bianco Le Quattro Volte has a pale straw-yellow hue with golden hues. The aromatic spectrum stretches over pleasant fruity and floral perceptions of apple, white peach, jasmine and lemon peel, enhanced by distinctive hints of pollen and must. Taste fresh, agile and vibrant, characterised by a graceful, soaring progression. A bottle of re-fermented wine is perfect to be enjoyed chilled in its youth in order to appreciate all its vivacity and vitality.
