In the beautiful environmental setting of Sambuca di Sicilia, in the province of Agrigento, the Serra Ferdinandea wine project was born, a joint venture between two families: the Planetas and the Oddos. The former represent one of the most famous oenological lineages in Sicily and in the whole of Italy, while the French Oddo family has, over the years, given rise to several large production realities scattered all over the world, from the Loire to South Africa, passing through Provence, Spain and, precisely, Sicily. With this project, the two families intend to unite the valuable traditions and their respective grape varieties, creating a strong bond in the name of qualitative excellence. The name Serra Ferdinandea refers to the fascinating history of the volcanic island of the same name that emerged in 1831 in the Sicilian Channel, between Pantelleria and the Agrigento area, following an underwater eruption. The sovereignty of the Ferdinandea island was disputed between the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, France and England before its disappearance ended the dispute. In fact, being composed of a very erodible magmatic material, the rocky platform disappeared in a short time.

There are currently 15 hectares under vine on the property, situated at an altitude of between 400 and 450 meters and surrounded by Mediterranean scrub and woodland. The soils derive from the disintegration and alteration of limestone rocks, and on them are planted the Sicilian varieties Grillo and Nero d'Avola, associated with the French international grapes Syrah and Sauvignon Blanc. Harvests are carried out by hand and subsequent fermentation, as well as aging, takes place in stainless steel tanks or in oak barrels, depending on the wine in question.

There are 3 labels offered by Serra Ferdinandea: an oak-aged white wine with a floral and saline character, a refreshing and drinkable rosé, and finally a red wine marked by a rich spiciness. Under the expert guidance of the Planeta and Oddo families, the bottles of Serra Ferdinandea manage to combine the sophistication of France with the Mediterranean sunshine typical of Sicily.
