Among the historic names of the Montalcino wine-growing district is that of Fuligni, a winery that has established itself over time for the elegance and typicality of its Brunello. The Fuligni family, of noble Venetian origin, moved to Tuscany in the 18th century with General Luigi Fuligni, who obtained large concessions of land in Maremma with the commitment to undertake land reclamation works. The family's arrival in Montalcino dates back to the early 20th century, when Giovanni Maria Fuligni started wine production in the area, as the family had previously done in Maremma. When Giovanni Maria died in 1971, his daughter Maria Flora took over the reins of the estate, located just east of the historic centre of Montalcino. Maria Flora is still at the helm of the winery today, supported by trusted collaborator Daniela Perino and the expert advice of oenologist Paolo Vagaggini.

The Fuligni estate comprises approximately 100 hectares of land, 13 of which are dedicated to viticulture. In particular, the rows of vines are mainly located in the Cottimelli locality, in the north-eastern area of Montalcino, at an altitude between 380 and 450 metres above sea level on galestro soils rich in stony skeleton. The vineyards, which enjoy various exposures, are reserved exclusively for Sangiovese Grosso, Montalcino's main variety. The grapes are harvested by hand with careful selection of the bunches and in the cellar fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. For the subsequent ageing phase of Brunello, mostly large 20 and 30 hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels are used, with a smaller percentage of the mass maturing instead in 5 hectolitre Allier oak tonneaux, the same containers used for ageing Rosso di Montalcino 'Ginestreto'.

The Fuligni winery's Brunello di Montalcino, in its "classic" and Riserva versions, is appreciated for its strong>strong territorial identity, as well as its sublime elegance and depth of expression. To ensure a constant quality of production, the grapes that are destined for Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello and Riserva are chosen from time to time according to the characteristics of the vintage, with Riserva being produced exclusively in the best years.
