The winery Badia a Coltibuono, one of the most representative in Chianti Classico, is located in Monti Chianti, at the northernmost edge of the Chianti subzone of Gaiole. Built by the Vallombrosian monks in 1051 as a monastery and place of worship, Badia a Coltibuono, literally 'abbey of the good harvest,' experienced significant development under the patronage of Lorenzo de' Medici, which extended its benevolent effects until the Napoleonic requisitions. Sold through a lottery at that time and later purchased by a banker in 1846, the abbey was transformed into a farm after World War II by Piero Stucchi Prinetti and is now led by his children, the sixth generation of the family.

Centuries of production and transformation have brought the estate to reach the size of 800 hectares today, of which 53 are vineyards. The vineyards are managed with an organic approach that aims, through experiments and the use of only natural substances, to minimize the use of copper. The plants, supported with chestnut poles, are organically nourished through controlled cover cropping and organic fertilizers. The conversion to organic farming, dating back to 1994, was an absolute novelty for Chianti production and a courageous and pioneering choice.

The stylistic hallmark of the entire production is recognizable for its extraordinary finesse and recalls the most intimate characteristics of Chianti. Stabilized for a long time at very high standards, the quality of the products is continually revitalized and enhanced by modernizations and reorganizations that consistently propel the produced bottles to the forefront of the entire Chianti production. Gratifying aromas, delicate and surprising scents, and top-notch drinkability are just some of the features of the fantastic interpretations of Chianti that bear the name Badia a Coltibuono, a winery that perpetuates the name of the 'good harvest' and indissolubly ties it to that of great wine.
