The very recent Franchina e Giarone winery is located in the Modena hills, specifically in Colombaro, a small hamlet in the municipality of Formigine, where young winemaker Luca Pizzetti manages 15 hectares of land, 6 of which are planted with vines. The winery was founded in 2020, when Luca, after collecting a series of experiences at other wineries, decided to undertake his own personal path in the sign of craftsmanship. The name chosen for the company derives from the names of two of its own vineyards.

The vineyards, which are up to 45 years old, are planted on compact clay soils and run organically, excluding the use of pesticides, herbicides and any other synthetic chemical substance that could seriously damage the environment. Lambrusco di Sorbara, Lambrusco Grasparossa, Trebbiano Modenese, Trebbiano di Spagna, Malvasia Bianca and Negretto are the main varieties grown, alongside which there are uncommon local varieties such as Sgavetta, Uva Tosca and Festasio. Luca has in fact planted new vineyards through a scrupulous mass selection of varieties that were once widespread in the area and are now almost forgotten. Harvests are carried out strictly by hand in boxes, while in the cellar fermentation takes place spontaneously thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts, and any oenological adjuvants or additives are excluded, except for very small doses of sulphur dioxide. Only fibreglass containers or steel tanks are used as wine vessels, neutral vessels that do not alter the varietal and territorial expression.

The fulcrum of Franchina e Giarone's production is the re-fermented wines bottled according to the Metodo Ancestrale, whether white, rosé or red. The total number of bottles produced annually is just 10,000, packaged with the now classic crown cork. Spontaneous and original labels, characterised by beautiful illustrations and sublime drinking pleasure.
